So… somethings have happened in the last 24 hours.
If you’ve tried to visit my Etsy shop today, you’ll notice that it’s empty of product. Etsy has suspended my account due to non payment of fees.
These fees are due to Etsy charging me 0.20 for each in-person sale I had at MarsCon. Something that I don’t think is fair as I ran the transactions through Square and not Etsy. I, unfortunately, will have to pay the fees before I can delete the shop permanently.
On Monday I will be launching a Square site. I’ve got most of it set up already, I will be spending the weekend creating item listings. I will have the new site connected to Facebook and Instagram.
This has been in the works for awhile, when Etsy announced it’s latest fee increase in the last 2 years, I started giving other sales platforms another look. I’ve had issues for awhile with how Etsy operates, and how they chose to really only help those who can pay their advertising fees. I’ve had months in the past where between their standard fees and the shipping costs I made pennies in profit. Etsy is decent if you’re just starting out, but honestly, when you get to the point where the majority of your sales are coming from social media platforms, like mine are, it’s time to move onto an different way of selling online.
