Crochet Facts and Opinions

Some history today.

Facts:

1. A Victorian Hobby: Queen Victoria learned to crochet and made 8 crochet scarves as awards for selected veterans of the South African War.

2. Get Knitting: During WWI, knitting was favored of crochet as crochet was seen as “decorative”, whilst knitting was seen as practical.

Opinions:

1. Personally, I think knitting was preferred because you can knit morse code easily. Where as, crocheting it, while possible, is a lot messier.

2. I also think, that while Queen Victoria brought crochet to the forefront of Victorian society, it was just kept hidden and out of sight since it was a socially acceptable skill to have by polite society.
