Changes coming

Hey everyone,

So starting in February, I’ll be posting YouTube videos. I’ve started recording how to make the patterns from the granny square series (https://octojellycrochetstudio.com/?cat=729445598). I’ll also be re-recording the Crochet Tools video that is already up and the Yarn Types Video. With all of that, there will be 22 videos going up on February.

I’ve also been researching older crochet patterns to post on the site and working on posts about my opinion on the yarns in my collection as well ass the crochet books in my collection.

I have taken a small break from the tea posts, but those will be making a come back sometime in March, as I work to make this site more crochet/fiber art oriented. The Crafts around the world series will return in March as well.

I also plan on delving into writing my own patterns this year. I may post some of them onto this blog. I’ll be starting with DnD Monsters.

What do you think?

Mayfair Square

A baby square. I think all of this weeks squares are baby squares. There are bobbles in this one as well, but after Round 1, it’s all double crochet.

Bobble: work 4dc into same sp leaving last loop of each dc on hook, yo and draw through all 5 loops

Base ring: ch8, join with slip st

Round 1: Ch3, 3dc into ring (hold back last loop of each dc, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook), *ch4, bobble into ring; rep from * twice more, ch4, slip st to top of 1st bobble

Round 2: Slip st into next ch-4 sp, ch3 (count as 1dc), [2dc, ch3, 3dc] into same sp, *1dc into top of next ch-4 sp; rep from * twice more, 1dc into top of next bobble, slip st to top of ch-3

Round 3: Ch3, 1dc into each of next 2 dc, [2dc, ch3, 2dc] into next ch-3 sp, *1dc into each of next 7dc, [2dc, ch3,2dc] into next ch-3 sp; rep from * twice more, 1dc into each of next 4 dc, slip st to top of ch-3.

Cransbill Lace Square

This is another that works up smaller than expected, but it has a simple elegance to it. It does contain bobble stitches,

Bobble: work 4dc into same sp leaving last loop of each on the hook. yo and draw through all loops on hook

Base Ring: Ch6, join with slip st

Round 1: Ch3, dc2tog into ring (counts as bobble), [ch3, bobble into ring] 7 times, ch3, slip st to top of 1st bobble

Round 2: Slip st to center of next ch-3 sp, ch1, 1sc into same space, [ch5, 1sc into next sp] 7 times, ch2, 1dc into 1st sc

Round 3: *Ch5, [bobble, ch3, bobble] into next sp**, ch5, 1sc into next sp; rep from * twice and from * to ** again, ch2, 1dc into dc that closed round 2

Round 4: *Ch5, 1sc into next sp, ch5, [1sc, ch5, 1sc] into corner ch-3 sp, ch5, 1sc into next ch-5 sp; rep from * 3 more times, ending last rep into dc that closed 3rd round, slip st to 1st ch.

Mosaic Tile

I like this square for the simple fact that despite that multiple color combination, it still comes out small than expected. I made one with a size 6.0mm hook and it still only measured 3 inches in length/width. This pattern does require you to carry colors over rows rather fastening off and refastening yarns.

Base Ring: Using color A, ch6, join with a slip stitch

Round 1: Ch4,[1dc, ch1] 11 times into the ring, slip st to 3rd of ch-4, draw color B though loop, drop Color A

Round 2: [1sc into next sp, ch2] 12 times, slip st to 1st sc, draw Color A though loop, drop Color B

Round 3: *[1sc into next sp, ch2] twice, [3dc, ch2] twice into next sp ffor corner; rep from *3 times more, slip st to 1st sc, draw Color B through loop, cast off Color A

Round 4: *(1sc, ch3) into each sp to corner, [1sc, ch3] twice into corner sp; rep from * 3 times more, slip st to 1st sc.
